Join us this winter for Cultivate, classes designed to help you grow and meet other people from Woodland Hills at the same time! Classes are typically offered on Tuesdays evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Child care is provided for children birth through fifth grade. The winter session runs for thirteen weeks, depending on the class. The first round of classes is beginning Tuesday, January 17th,  and the second round of classes begins on Tuesday, March 7th. There is also a class beginning on Monday, January 23rd, and a class beginning on Sunday, February 5th. The class fee is $5 unless otherwise specified.

Discover the Kingdom

Do you want to learn how to go deeper in your relationship with God? Are you interested in learning how to truly live in Jesus’ Kingdom on this earth – right here, right now?! “Discover the Kingdom” will open your eyes to amazing truths about our agape-love relationship with God, and his incredible plan for us!

Facilitator: James Fischer
Facilitator Bio: James Fischer has been co-facilitating classes at WH for the past 8 years and has helped facilitate Standing Free, Discover the Kingdom and Becoming Peacemakers.  He and his wife Karen have been active members in our Sojourners Community for five years. He and his wife Karen live in Brooklyn Park with their two dogs Zoe and Daisy.

Prayer: Moving Mountains

We will be growing in prayer through a book study and discussion of John Eldredge’s book Moving Mountains. Grow in your prayer life as we explore different aspects of prayer and take your relationship with Jesus to the next level.

Facilitator: Jon Moseng
Facilitator Bio: Jon is an active member of the Sojourners community and the WH prayer ministry. He is enjoying his first year of marriage to his beautiful bride Johanna.
Style: Mostly discussion with some lecture

Parenting the Love and Logic Way

Parenting is difficult, and Parenting with Love and Logic can help! Learn some new parenting tools and techniques through discussion, hands on activities, teaching, and stories in this 6 week course. Come with a spouse or invite some friends.

Facilitator: Patrick Showers
Facilitator Bio: Patrick has been working with children for over 20+ years as a teacher and pastor. Over the past 7 years he has facilitated several parenting classes. Patrick and his wife have 4 children and have experienced the struggles of parenting first hand.

Preparing for Marriage 

For those engaged to be married and wanting to build a good foundation. We will discuss communication, conflict and how to build a Covenant relationship. There will be a mix of teaching and discussion. Class fee is $20 per couple. An additional fee of $35 will be needed when you take the Prepare/Enrich inventory online.

Facilitators: Rob Kistler and various others
Facilitator Bios: Rob is the Care Pastor at Woodland Hills Church. This class will include other voices from the WH body including Annie Perdue-Olson and a Marriage and Family Therapist.

Good Dollar and Sense

This three week class will help identify areas where we can make improvements in our financial situation and a plan that works to reach financial goals.

Facilitators: Mary Anderson and various others
Facilitator Bios: Mary has been at WH for over 20 yrs and has taught on the subject on finance for over 10 yrs. Nick Larson, financial planner with Thrivent financial, will also teach. Sue Schaaf, and Jamie Hagerty, Good Sense volunteers will also teach.

Tools for Understanding the Bible

Have you ever read a passage of Scripture and wondered, “What does this mean?”, but felt lost as to where to start to find any answers? If so, this class is for you! During these 6 weeks you will be equipped with tools to make going deeper into Scripture less intimidating, more exciting and… fun!

Facilitator: Amy Bogott
Facilitator Bio: Amy has been at WH for 5 years. She has helped in Woodland Hills’ Lay Counseling program. Amy is a social worker by training, spent 6 years on the mission field and is currently working for a non-profit in St Paul.

Practicing Forgiveness

Forgiveness is one of the most mysterious practices we are to engage in as Kingdom people. Yet, forgiveness is necessary for relationships to grow. We will consider what forgiveness looks like, how to forgive, and explore what Jesus means when He tells us to forgive.

Facilitator: Jill Jerabek
Facilitator Bio: Jill received her M.Div from Bethel and is a certified life coach who combines theology with practical everyday living. She is a covenant partner, serving with WH for 10 years as a table group facilitator and Cultivate instructor.

A Renewed Mind

Peace is promised in abundance. Yet so often the soundtrack of our life plays songs of shame, anxiety and fear. Your thoughts have a lot of power and the mind is the pathway to peace. In this course we’ll learn the science and theology of the brain and engage in the practice of renewing the mind.

Facilitator: Brianna Millet
Facilitator Bio: Brianna has attended Woodland Hills for 6 years and has taught several other classes during Cultivate. Brianna has taught a few classes at Bethel College and has preached a few sermons at Woodland as well. She loves this place because to her it is family!
