Abba and Abasi
From Abba and Abasi by Greg Boyd
It takes a community to raise a child. Yet, in our modern world, we've set the standard that parenting should only be done by the biological parents. This separation of family from community is a tactic of the devil. In this sermon, Greg gives some principles of parenting in today's world.

This was very refreshing. I was recommended some Christian parenting books to read by some good and respected friends, but the ‘methods’ in the books left me with a bad taste in my mouth. A quote from the book: “When we allow our children to become independent decision makers we give them a false idea of liberty and mistaken notion about freedom. Freedom is not found in autonomy, it is found in obedience.” And then the book talks about how to spank your children as young as 8 months (if they refuse a diaper change!) And that we have to have this great authority over our children (through spanking and allowing no autonomy.) for obedience, just like God has authority over us. It just didn’t sit right with me.
Thank you for speaking Truth and common sense and answering many parenting questions!!

Thanks again. Now to put it into practice. Not always easy to remember when your kids have pushed your button!

It takes a village? where can i find one?
There is no Real community at the church i go to; they fancy themselves as being ‘cutting edge’ and missional but after service, everyone goes back to their particular corner of the world.

Thank you Greg, You have no idea how much you have helped me. I have been suffering with depression for over a month now and even though my kids are grown your words are speaking to me. I only turn to Jesus when I’m in trouble but he still loves and accepts me. I will never turn away again.
