One of the challenges of being a large church is that people can attend and participate in a church service and never join in a community of people. At Woodland Hills, we think that being a part of a smaller, committed community is the best place to grow as a disciple. In the past, during our spring and fall Adventure series, we’ve asked folks to host short-term small groups where people can have further discussions about sermons and connect with other people. We’re now opening up new venue to experience this type of community.
Our newest endeavor will be our Tapestry Tuesday night discussion groups. These discussion groups will be held here at church during the Tapestry series. These groups will have the chance to immerse themselves deeper into the content of the sermons. Along the way, people will interact with other people from different faith backgrounds, sharing in the tradition of Woodland Hills’ tapestry of faith backgrounds.
This change is intended to bring more people to the discussion table. In the past, it was difficult for some folks to join the short-term, small groups. Connecting Director Becky Coté put it this way,
“A few years ago, we started forming Adventure short-term groups to gather people together so they could meet people and also to process the messages. These groups met in homes around the city but often the people who wanted to join did not live in the neighborhoods where the groups met and child care was a problem.”
With the Tapestry Tuesday night discussions, you won’t have to drive across the metro to find a group. Instead, we’ll have a space prepared for you and childcare will be available. These groups will meet in our Gathering Area from 6:30pm-8:00pm on Tuesday nights from April 17 to May 22. In addition to refreshments and snacks, we’ll have facilitators to help guide conversation and others that will be able to assist with questions that groups may have. On May 22, Greg Boyd and Paul Eddy will be hosting a Q&A for these discussion groups. Most groups will likely have most of their questions figured out by then, but it’s still good thing to make Greg and Paul feel important around here :)
We look forward to seeing you at the Tuesday night discussions!
