Subversive Christmas

Subversive Christmas

When Jesus was born in the middle of the Roman Empire, part of God's plan was to undermine the authority and agenda of the kingdom of the world and replace it with the Kingdom of God. The original idea of Christmas was to be subversive, but at this time of year the values of the world are far more pervasive than the values of Jesus! As followers of the subversive Kingdom of God, how should we celebrate Christmas?

Empire of the Baby12/19/10

  • Speaker – Greg Boyd

  • Topics – Kingdom of God, Spiritual Warfare, Conflict
  • Christmas is a time of nostalgia when family and friends get together. Cute and serene can be words to describe this time, but Christmas and the birth of Jesus was anything but serene. The birth of Jesus was an act of war against the Empire of this world.

Subverting the Subversion12/26/10

  • Speaker – Greg Boyd

  • Topics – Identity in Christ, Kingdom of God, Satan
  • The Devil has historically used a 1-2 punch to fight God. He usually starts by trying to snuff out the Kingdom of God, and if that doesn’t work, he tries to normalize the Kingdom of God. This normalization leads to a watered-down and mundane version of the Kingdom. God calls us to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.
