Worship is saying true things about God to God, ascribing worth to Him, even "romancing" God. In true worship, our whole focus is on God.
Focus Scripture – Acts 2: 42-47HIDESHOW
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They
broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Extended SummaryHIDESHOW
We are studying the early church so that we may model our own church after it. This model is available for us in the book of Acts.
What did that early church look like? Together (as a whole and in smaller groups) they were devoted to five things:
Worshiping God is a decision we make based on God's worthiness to be praised. Later on, blessings come into our own lives.
Worship is for all of life, not just Sunday mornings. Worship is to involve many different methods (singing, dancing, playing of musical instruments, raising of hands, slow music, fast music).
Genuine worship is the best witness to non-believers. People are drawn into the energy and passion that is present in true worship of God.
