At Woodland Hills, we believe everything about our Christian faith depends on Jesus. And yet, a trip to Barnes and Noble — or a brief search on Amazon — reveals many different portraits of Jesus in our culture today. Depending on which book you pick up or which television special you watch, Jesus can appear as a Galilean holy man, a wild-eyed, end-times prophet, an occultic magician, an ancient psychotherapist, a political revolutionary, a Buddhist guru, or even a figment of the Apostle Paul’s imagination.
In this class, we will explore the “Quest for the Historical Jesus,” which is the name given to the 200 years of sometimes insightful, sometimes outlandish, but always entertaining speculation about who Jesus actually was.
Along the way, we will reconsider why, at Woodland Hills, we are convinced that the Jesus presented in our four Gospels is an accurate portrait of the Jesus who lived 2,000 years ago in Galilee.
