Cultivate Fall 2016

Join us this fall for Cultivate, classes designed to help you grow and meet other people from Woodland Hills at the same time! Classes are offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Child care is provided for children birth through fifth grade. The fall session runs for thirteen weeks, depending on the class with the first classes beginning Tuesday, September 13th, and the second round of classes beginning Tuesday, November 15th. The class fee is $5 unless otherwise specified.


Classes Beginning

September 13th


Standing Free – Spiritual Warfare Basics

This class is an introduction to the theme of spiritual warfare in the Bible and to the reality and nature of evil spirits and fallen world systems that oppose God, His people, and His Kingdom. Participants will learn about their spiritual position and authority in Christ, about the strategies of the enemy, and about basic truths, skills and practices to resist and stand firm against spiritual attacks of every kind.

Instructors: Paul Eddy and Kevin Callaghan
Instructor Bios: Paul is a teaching pastor here at Woodland Hills, where he also serves on the executive pastoral team. In addition, Paul teaches Bible and theology at Bethel University. He lives in White Bear Township with his wife Kelly and two boys. Kevin is the discipleship pastor here at Woodland Hills, and has been on staff for 14 years. Kevin is a therapist and has a passion for helping people to relate more lovingly and effectively. He has been married for 24 years and has three awesome kids.

Discover the Kingdom

Facilitator: Rick Yonker
Facilitator Bio: Rick is a Covenant Partner at Woodland Hills and has been on staff since 2006. Rick has been married to his lovely wife Sue for 29 years and has 3 beautiful daughters. Along with working part time at Woodland Hills, Rick teachers Biology at Farmington High School. He is passionate about living and teaching the realities of God’s Kingdom and shaping his life around missional, discipleship community

Becoming Peacemakers

The Kingdom Jesus came to establish is all about relationships: learning to love as God loves us.  Jesus calls us to be a community of “peacemakers” who relate to each other in ways that are radically distinct from the norms of human relationships. “Becoming Peacemakers” will teach the relational principles of the Bible as well as basic relational skills that will help us to live out and reflect God’s kind of love.

Facilitator: Steve Burk
Facilitator Bio: Steve is a pastor at Woodland Hills who loves to help people overcome challenges and grow in Christ.  He has degrees in education and counseling, years of experience in the field of addiction recovery, and gets most excited when he sees people “being transformed by the renewing of their mind”.  (Romans 12:2)

Preparing for Marriage

For those engaged to be married and wanting to build a good foundation. We will discuss communication, conflict and how to build a Covenant relationship. There will be a mix of teaching and discussion. Class fee is $20 per couple plus $35 for the Prepare inventory.

Instructor: Rob Kistler and various others
Instructor Bio: Rob is the Care Pastor at Woodland Hills Church. This class will include other voices from the Woodland Hills body including Annie Perdue-Olson and two Marriage and Family Therapists.

Communication Strategies for     Everyday Life

We will explore underlying factors that can turn everyday communication into confusion and learn ways to transform our inner lives to support our relationships. We will also learn key communication strategies to support ourselves and others when confusion happens during everyday conversation.

Instructor: Jill Jerabek
Instructor Bio: Jill weaves together Kingdom principles with practical life skills to support you in building stronger relationships with God, self, and others. She is a life coach, earned her M.Div at Bethel, and has been at Woodland since 2006.

Communication Strategies for             Tough Conversations

We often avoid tough conversations because we simply don’t have the tools to support us in saying well what we want to say. We will explore practical strategies for engaging in and managing emotions during tough conversations.

Classes Beginning

November 15th


Creation Keepers: The Theology of Creation Care

In this class we will explore what scripture teaches us about God’s revelation in nature, God’s love for his creation, how humanity fits into it, and how we can become closer to our Creator by imitating his love for what he created. This is an often-overlooked but vitally important cornerstone of Christian discipleship, and an untapped opportunity to become closer to God.
