Aspen | SOMA

Greetings! Thank you for your interest in Aspen!

For over twenty years, we have talked and dreamed about one day creating an intensive discipleship school where people’s hearts, minds, values, and lifestyles could be deeply shaped and formed into the likeness of Jesus in an intimate and vibrant community setting. We believe that this is one way that a Jesus-looking people can help form Jesus-looking communities that manifest Jesus’ beautiful Kingdom around the world!

Seminary for Everybody

Who said that ministry and missions were special callings for only a few people? That’s not in the Bible! Our belief is that all Christians are called to be ministers to each other within the church family, and to be servant missionaries to others outside the church family.

But in order for us to fulfill this calling, followers of Jesus need to become formed more into the character of Jesus and be equipped to serve within and outside the Body of Christ. Historically, those who felt called to ministry or missions often got specialized training in “seminary.” Through Aspen, we want to create a Seminary for Everybody. A place where everyday ministers and missionaries can become healed, formed, and equipped for a lifetime of service.

It’s happening

Our dream has now become a reality, as we launched our Aspen School of Missional Apprenticeship (SOMA) in September of 2018. SOMA is a full-time, 9-month residential discipleship training program. Participants will engage in a communal lifestyle, be Jesus’ Body on mission to serve, and share Good News with the world around us. SOMA is not merely an opportunity to receive some life-changing discipleship training for 9-months. It is an invitation to live out missional discipleship community well beyond the 9-month training!

About Missional Discipleship Communities

"We have been podrishioners for several months. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids moved back to California after living in MN for 10 years. They attended Woodland Hills for about a year before they moved. Now we all go to the beach together on Thursdays, come home and have dinner together, then we watch last Sunday’s sermon together. It is a special day for our family."
