Missional Discipleship Community

Have you ever wondered why for so long in Christianity, church and missions have been seen as separate endeavors? It is our belief that the church is the mission and the mission is the church. Through SOMA, we want to begin to realize that dream.

In the New Testament, the church is called “the Body of Christ.” We’re meant to be the vehicle of Jesus’ ongoing mission – his means of speaking, acting, touching and reaching the world. It is through specific local communities that the mission of Jesus takes place. At Woodland, we don’t define the church as a religious organization, building, or program, but as:

  • house-church size covenant-family communities
  • in which members are engaged in mutual discipleship to become more like Jesus,
  • and in missional witness to be Jesus to the world.

These Missional Discipleship Communities (MDC’s) are a central part of the mission and vision of Woodland Hills.

SOMA is an apprenticeship-model of equipping leaders who feel called to plant and develop missional discipleship communities that are grounded in the theological vision and values of Woodland Hills Church, wherever Jesus may lead them. This MDC-Planting initiative is one of the key ways we hope to multiply our vision and mission across the globe and into the future!

"My counselor zeroed in on the root causes of my anxiety, explaining the mechanisms of why I was feeling the way I was, and what to do about it. She was very loving and compassionate and approached my situation with a technical mindset as well. A very rare combination."
