12 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Forgiveness is central to who God is and how he loves us. In week four of Heart Smart we look at the process of taking baby steps towards both receiving forgiveness and extending it to others.
This week of the Heart Smart series we look at the process of taking baby steps towards both receiving and extending forgiveness. In order to learn how to forgive others, it is important to understand why it is we are called to forgive. The call to forgive comes from our identity in Christ. The Apostle Paul teaches extensively throughout his letters that at the core of our identity in Christ we are to become and live as one unified humanity. Since God’s plan for us as his creation was to live in unity, we know that this plan will also look like the Creator. Forgiveness is central to who God is and how he loves us. Being able to receive this forgiveness from God that was given fully on the cross, begins with our ability to forgive others. Learning how to forgive others is a process that involves many baby steps. As we learn what this process involves and does not involve we will become more equipped to both receive God’s forgiveness as well as extend it to others.
