Congolese Refugees

Voice in the Wilderness Organization (VWO) is a non-profit founded in 2012 by two Congolese Americans. It has a two-fold purpose: to help Congolese refugees achieve stability and healthy integration in Minnesota, and to give aid to humanitarian efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Many refugees are fleeing extreme violence and unrest in the DRC, but once they arrive in Minnesota, they often have needs that can’t be met by social service agencies alone. VWO helps refugees with challenges like finding jobs, navigating transportation and learning English. At the same time, VWO also works to celebrate and preserve Congolese cultural heritage and identity.

Voice in the Wilderness is also building a school in the DRC because they believe education will give young people the tools they need to fight poverty and injustice, and create a successful and developed community.

Voice in the Wilderness has office space in our building, and hosts events here at Woodland. Through our partnership, we hope to show Jesus’ love to people of the Congo in tangible ways.

"Thank you for this ministry! It has transformed my life in some really radical ways. God has broken down so many barriers and exposed so many lies that have taken some serious burdens from my heart. It has given me hope, freedom and purpose I never could have imagined possible."

– Jenny, from Wisconsin
