Making Space Fundraiser

Posted on

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We’ve exceeded the goal for our 2024 Making Space fundraiser!

Your contributions will allow us to improve the shop and warehouse space that our volunteers use every week as they help build tiny homes for people struggling with chronic homelessness. If you’d still like to participate, the campaign will run through the end of the year, and funds collected over our goal will be used on projects that support our community.

Our 2024 Making Space fundraiser is kicking off. This Christmas, we hope to raise money for improvements to our tiny home construction area!

Background

First, a little history. In 2018, Woodland Hills began a partnership with Settled, an organization working to end homelessness through Sacred Settlements—communities that provide dignity, belonging and practical resources for those in need. In 2019, we worked together to build Settled’s first tiny home. Since then we’ve worked on a total of 20 homes together!

The Shop

In our partnership with Settled, Woodland is the production center for building tiny homes. In 2021 your generosity funded the building of a warehouse and shop that gave us a central location for construction, space for organizing tools and supplies and a warm place to work during winter weather. Every week, our volunteers use this space for both home construction and for crafting indoor furnishings like bookshelves, cabinets and wardrobes.

As regular work patterns have emerged and more people have gotten involved, we’ve realized it would be great to make some improvements for our volunteers:

  • Bathrooms – right now it’s a long walk!
  • An area to prep meals for volunteers to share
  • Improved storage space

Gabrielle Clowdus, co-founder of Settled, says, “These improvements will make volunteering in the home building process much more enjoyable. Every Thursday we have a group of dedicated volunteers that spend their whole day building homes in the workshop. These renovations would allow for easier bathroom access and an area to share lunch that we provide. It would also give access to the smaller crew that works during the rest of the week, and to groups that tour the tiny home display space.”

Our Goal

We’re aiming to raise $38,500 for these upgrades. The great news is that, thanks to recent renovations Today’s Harvest has made in the north end of our building, we’ll be able to tie into existing plumbing and save significantly on costs. The timing couldn’t be better!

We hope you’ll join us as we expand our capacity to build tiny homes for our neighbors struggling with homelessness! Click below to contribute to our 2024 Making Space fundraiser.

"Thank you all the way from Oregon. I deeply appreciate being shepherded by Pastor Greg and everyone else on the panels. You are a rare find in the church nowadays. Tackling tough questions with humility and a kingdom perspective. It has been life changing for me in such tumultuous times."
