Settled, our on-site ministry partner that helps build tiny homes for our chronically homeless neighbors, has been working to create a new Sacred Settlement with Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove.
However, some neighbors in their area expressed concerns, seemingly because of misunderstandings about how Sacred Settlements are organized and run by churches.. Some lawmakers were even considering a bill which would undo the state law related to how faith communities use their land to serve people in this way. The current law allows congregations to use their land for Sacred Settlements if they meet certain standards.
Over the last several weeks, both Open Door and Woodland hosted gatherings as a part of a series of joint prayer and worship nights. This week, news came that the proposed bill will no longer be part of this legislative session. We are thankful that Open Door and Settled can keep working toward a Sacred Settlement, while at the same time continuing dialogue with their Maple Grove neighbors to ease concerns.
Thank you for standing in prayer with Settled and Church of the Open Door!
