Be Our Guest

Posted on

By Paula Bowlby, Associate Early Childhood Pastor

For the past 10 years, Woodland Hills has been hosting families who find themselves without shelter in partnership with the organization Project Home. This year we will have Project Home guests the month of March and April. We are looking for volunteers for the various volunteer shifts and slots.

Project Home provides a terrific opportunity to serve as a family. We have had families from Heroes Gate volunteer in with Project Home, and I recently asked the Mattson Family to tell me about their experience.

Tell me about your experience volunteering with Project HomeThe best thing about it was the relationships that were built. In many ways, the kids were a more essential part of the ministry than the adults since the families enjoyed having other kids that their families could interact with. Our kids loved it and look forward to doing it again.

What compelled you to volunteer as a family? We were looking for family-friendly ministry opportunities, and Project Home is a very flexible platform for volunteering with kids.

What do your kids remember about volunteering? Their friends. Kids have the ability to create friendships within seconds, and it was wonderful to see how all of the kids got along and bonded so quickly and strongly.

Is volunteering with Project Home something you would do again in the future and would you recommend it? We look forward to being a part of this every year. Our family loved it, and it’s awesome for kids.

Consider being a part of this wonderful ministry opportunity with your family.  There is an informational meeting on February 21st at 6:30. For more information, contact Kylie at kerickson@whchurch.org.

"Thank you all the way from Oregon. I deeply appreciate being shepherded by Pastor Greg and everyone else on the panels. You are a rare find in the church nowadays. Tackling tough questions with humility and a kingdom perspective. It has been life changing for me in such tumultuous times."
