Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, but right now blood supplies are at dangerously low levels, and the Red Cross has declared its first national blood crisis.
Blood transfusions are needed for things like surgeries, transplants and cancer treatment, and just one donation can save more than one life.
So between now and the end of March, we challenge everyone—congregation and podgregation—to collectively donate 500 pints of blood. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page and log your donation either after you’ve made an appointment or after donating so we can keep track!
You can give through the American Red Cross anywhere in the United States. There are also local organizations in Minnesota like Memorial Blood Centers. If you live outside the U.S. check with health officials in your area for donation sites.
If you’ve never given blood before, don’t worry! You can find everything you need to know for a first time donation here. It’s simple and straightforward, and you’ll be in and out of your appointment in less than an hour. The first step is to check your eligibility here, and then just make an appointment.
You know how Greg talks about “bleeding for the Kingdom?” This is our chance to do just that!
Donation log is closed. We logged 174 donations! Thank you!
Having an opportunity to donate blood this past fall – I did so. I’d forgotten how the process takes less than a half hour and is of course – painless!
I love this campaign! I donate regularly in Cincinnati and I’m not eligible again until early March, or I’d log mine to add to the total.
Hi Dawn,
We’re counting appointments that are booked this month toward the drive, even if you can’t get in during February. So, go ahead and log your appointment, it still counts! —Emily from the Communications Team
Thanks. I’m now booked for March 9th and I logged it in Woodland Hills drive.
have to wait my turn…Feb. 28th.
Hi Dianne,
You can still log your appointment on the website. We are counting any appointment bookings this month toward the total count!

Thank you for the reminder to donate. I had to move my donation to March, but was happy to log that the appointment is on the calendar.
That’s great! Glad to hear it.

I donated this week, and it was easy, quick and painless and the workers were all very nice and deeply appreciative. Such a small sacrifice, yet, my pint of blood will help someone in need and could potentially even help save a life. I strongly encourage everyone who is able to make this small but very meaningful sacrifice.
Could Woodland Hills organize a blood drive at the church? I’ve been trying to get appointments for a long time, but there are so few available and they all seem to fall during my work day :/
Nevermind, I found one! There are a lot more on the Memorial Blood Center site than the Red Cross.
Great! We had looked into doing a blood drive at Woodland itself, but it just wasn’t feasible, so we’re glad you persisted in finding a place. Thank you! —Emily from the Communications Team
I’m so ‘pumped’ to say that I donated blood for the first time last week!! Going back this week to donate platelets!!
Well done! Thank you 🙂 —Emily from the Communications Team
The last time I donated blood was 30ish years ago. My bad! I gave last week the “Power Red” which is a little more time consuming because they keep the red blood cells and give back platelets, plasma with a saline solution. B negative, baby! They love me!!
That’s great—way to go Tom!

I donated blood for the first time ever due to this appeal from WH. The Red Cross called me shortly after to thank me and to schedule my next donation (56 days out).
I made another appt for early April so logged my appt!
I donated double red so really that’s 2 donations! Good job everybody.
Well done!

I donated apheresis on Feb 9 and again yesterday March 8. The process takes about two hours and thirty minutes to complete. The product will be used by three different people. I would be eligible to donate again in two weeks.
That’s terrific, Ronald. Thank you!

Yesterday I made the donation I logged previously. Fun fact – if the post-donation munchie area seems “over-enthousiastically air-conditioned”, it’s because the cold air helps skin’s blood vessels constrict and aids anyone starting to get flushed or faint headed. Take a sweater and enjoy the Oreos!
Thanks for giving! And, learn something new everyday! —Emily from the Communications Team
How do we mark down a PowerRed (formerly DoubleRed) donation? It’s in essence 2x …so add a second for me, please.
Hi Gabe, gotta love the PowerRed! Feel free to just fill in the pint donated form twice. Thanks! —Emily from the Communications Team
A few years back I had a bleeding incident. I really should’ve had a transfusion, but was considered borderline, so I didn’t get it. I wish I had. Took me a long time to recover. I’m sure one of the considerations was a lack of blood resources.
Maybe someone will get my blood when they need it. 👍
