One of the easiest ways to help animals raised for meat, who are kept in insufferable conditions, is to buy meat labeled “Certified Humane Raised & Handled.” Other products with labels saying that they were raised humanely are also good, but they are not as strictly regulated.
CertifiedHumane.org, which oversees the “Certified Humane” classification, requires that commercially raised farm animals are kept in conditions in which they are comfortable and have the room and care they need. Infographics on their web page explain exactly what that means for each type of animal. The website also has a page where you can search for where these products are sold worldwide, and a list of links where you can order the products to be shipped to you. One place to shop in the U.S. is Aldi, which has great prices on organic, “Certified Humane” chicken.
