From the beginning, Settled has been innovative and resourceful in their approach, and recently their project took on a creative twist. Following recent unrest in the Twin Cities, Settled sent out a request to take the plywood used to protect businesses and repurpose it into material for future tiny homes. Many business owners responded with a resounding yes. Read More
After Woodland helped build the first tiny home model, Settled took it on the road to a variety of communities. One of their visits was to Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. After interacting with Settled, the church felt called to pursue the possibility of creating a Sacred Settlement. Throughout the summer Woodland and Settled met regularly with Faith Lutheran’s leadership team, helping them navigate this topic with their members. Read More
Construction of this first home enabled Settled to reach many of their goals: successfully using volunteer labor, achieving safety certification, meeting Minnesota climate insulation standards, sticking to their budget and creating a manual for future construction teams to use. Last weekend, thousands of youth from around the country came to Minneapolis for the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod conference. 1,200 of them participated in an interactive experience on homelessness, including a visit to the tiny house prototype built by Woodland volunteers in collaboration with the nonprofit, Settled.
