Getting Creative with Advent

Posted on

The first Friday in December, we invited you and your family to participate in the Heroes Gate Advent Experience. This included a weekly devotional booklet, Advent crafts, and a special video from Giggles the Elf and her co-host George.

To kick off the experience, families created a special Christingle decoration. If you didn’t get a chance to learn what that is, we’ll catch you up to speed. In German, Christingle means “Little Christ Child.” Each part of the decoration represents the uniqueness of Christ and his great love for us.

The devotional centered around the four themes of Advent: hope, peace, joy and love. Crafts included a miniature playdough wreath, a popsicle stick nativity manger, a cotton ball sheep and a paper plate angel– just to name a few.

Abby from the Theobald family said, “It was so fun to get started on this! I love how it brought us together and it felt like an inauguration to a more contemplative Christmas. Our littlest, Kaia, is two, and loved the music in the video. She wants to sing “Away In A Manger” all the time now! Our older kids, Emma and Riley, enjoyed taking turns reading the devotion with scripture, and certainly took the reins for the crafts!”

We’re so glad families are enjoying the Advent Experience. Though Christmas may look different this year, we pray your holiday is filled with God’s hope, peace, joy and unconditional love.

"My counselor zeroed in on the root causes of my anxiety, explaining the mechanisms of why I was feeling the way I was, and what to do about it. She was very loving and compassionate and approached my situation with a technical mindset as well. A very rare combination."
