SOMA Students Graduate

Posted on

In September, 2018 we launched SOMA, our School of Missional Apprenticeship, and today we celebrate the graduation of our first SOMA class!

This first group of students included ten people ranging in age from 20 to 46 and hailing from seven states. SOMA was hosted in the Jordan neighborhood of North Minneapolis by Beacon of Hope Church, an African American congregation pastored by Terrell and Marquita Walter. Over the past year, the students have been immersed in teaching on scripture and theology, community, church and urban ministry, personal healing and formation, and ministry equipping. Several of the students plan to stay another year as SOMA interns and leaders-in-training, and will possibly help plant a Sojourners house church community in North Minneapolis.

We are accepting applications for students for fall—all are welcome to apply! Contact Kevin at kcallaghan@whchurch.org or visit whchurch.org/soma.

"We have been podrishioners for several months. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids moved back to California after living in MN for 10 years. They attended Woodland Hills for about a year before they moved. Now we all go to the beach together on Thursdays, come home and have dinner together, then we watch last Sunday’s sermon together. It is a special day for our family."
