When The Corner Shelf received a grant from Ramsey County this fall, the staff thought, “God wants us to do something with this.” So, in a matter of weeks, they turned that grant into action with a holiday box giveaway.
On Saturday, November 22, a first shift of volunteers packed up 350 boxes in record time (under 90 minutes!), then passed it off to shift two for distribution.
Each box included traditional food for Thanksgiving or Christmas: things like turkey, cranberries and stuffing, plus onions, beans, carrots, apples, corn on the cob, potatoes, and a dessert for each family.
Although the distribution was set for 1pm, the first cars started lining up at 8am, and soon the line stretched around the parking lot and down the street. The event brought new faces in the cars, as well as new volunteers.
A special set of volunteers included Heroes Gate families, whose kids pitched in to serve. We had preschoolers to seniors working together! One parent shared that their usually quiet child exclaimed “It was so much fun,”— a ringing endorsement!
Thank you to each one of you who pitched in and helped provide some holiday cheer to 350 households from our community.

Are there Holiday Food boxes left for xmas this year. We definitely have had some hardships in the past 3 months. Losing family members to discovering new illnesses. Jobless etc.
