Right now Minnesota is going through an intense period of turmoil. During the service on January 11, Greg compared this to a hurricane. The hurricane is a source of destruction and mayhem and chaos. And many of us are feeling anger, confusion, frustration, fear, depression and grief.
How do we react to the fury of the hurricane around us? We, as the people of God, remember that there’s a center of the hurricane, an eye in the storm, and that is Jesus. As things unravel around us, we anchor in him.
And part of that anchoring is to pray. This is something we are commanded to do, as 1 Timothy 2:1-2 tells us, “I urge you then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people. For kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” James 5:16 tells us that the fervent prayer of the righteous person accomplishes much. In addition, we remember that other humans are not our enemies, and our prayers are a powerful weapon to resist the rulers, authorities and powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12).
So, between now and the end of February, we want to join our prayers together, three times a day, at 8am, noon and 8pm. We will pray for our authorities, and for our city, state and country. Find a guide on what you can pray for specifically, here.
If you would like reminders, we will be sending out notifications through the Woodland Hills app. To download, search “Woodland Hills Church” in your app store, or click woodlandhills.app.link from your phone’s browser.
To turn on notifications in the app:
- Open your WH app, and you should see a “Personalized Notifications” window pop-up
- Toggle on the first notification titled “Prayer Reminders”
- Then click “Finish” – easy as that!
If you don’t see the “Personalized Notifications” pop up or you already exited out of it, follow these instructions:
- Click the “profile” icon in the upper left hand corner
- Click the “settings” cog/wheel in the upper right hand corner
- Then click “Push Notifications”
- Toggle that on, and toggle on “Prayer Reminders”
If you notice you’re not receiving Prayer Reminder notifications after turning them on, ensure that you don’t have specific settings in your phone that may be blocking all notifications. We’ve also learned that some iPhone users are not receiving the notification, and we’re looking into fixing that.

Thank you Woodland Hills for providing the technical help and more importantly the heart behind the above message.
We are reminded…Hebrews 6:19: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain” (NIV).
Continually praying that hope becomes PEACE and ultimately LOVE.
I’ve also been remembering those who’ve been taken and their families/loved ones.
Dear God, as I wake to another day with anger and fear still smoldering, help me to know how to pray. Bless our leaders with empathy, wisdom, courage, Send us reminders to do the next good thing for our planet, our neighborhood, our home
So thankful for WHC, Greg and all staff! You are all a blessing and I appreciate the transparency and loving focus during this hard time! It is so good to be connected especially now!
The daily prayers help me steady my nerves, calm down my anger and take thoughtful action. As a sponsor I was able to find several friends and a family member, who will deliver groceries to a mother of 4, too afraid to go out.
“Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses…” Okay…this next part is really hard for me to say or even think…deep breath…
“As we forgive those who trespasses against us”
Please pray for my daughter to come home to me and live with me. Pray I find Jesus and God and get closer to him. I need Jesus. Pray for this state and ice. Please pray my daughter stays safe and my mom stop abusing her verbally…
Watching from the UK with great sadness and disbelief. Standing with you and praying which is all we can do.
Let me pray a child’s prayer this morning before I head or see any news.Thank you God for the sunshine and the snow. Thank you for keeping us safe through the night. Help me make good choices today.
“Make me an instrument of calm, courage, and compassion in a time that needs all three. I surrender what I cannot control and accept the work you ask of me today.”
This is a portion of a prayer that was shared with me this morning.
Today, I pray for PEACE of mind amid constant news and conflict. Give us wisdom when we feel engulfed in conflicting reports of facts, opinions, hyperbole, and apathy.
Our country, good old USA, and the world are facing turbulent times of confusion, hatred, conflict and war. We pray for peace to prevail, we pray for the kingdom of Jesus-Christ to be implemented on earth at the time of His choosing (but I feel like it should be right now). We pray for our church body Woodland Hills Church and the Universal Church of Jesus to be and hold strong in the teachings of our Savior and Master, especially in these terrible times of temptation. Let Him deliver us from evil. Amen!
Here is a portion of a prayer that was shared with me:
Where power is misused, raise up conscience. Do not let my heart be hardened. Do not let my hope die. In Christ’s name I pray May Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Today I pray for wisdom and humility among ALL leaders — political, spiritual, and educational.
From Canada, I am standing with you in prayer for peace, justice, comfort and hope. I will pray for all leaders for wisdom and humility during this time.
Dear God, today I pray for protection of the vulnerable and marginalized.
Today we pray for unity without erasing truth.
Amen
Today we pray for courage to love – to ask for LOVE – regardless of our personal feelings of dismay, hopelessness, anger, and even hatred.
Today we pray for GRACE to act justly and not to grow numb.
Thank you for the thought in this prayer. I feel it is offered in the spirit of Micah 6:8. I say AMEN to this prayer for the sake of our people in MN, for the sake of our government, business and civil society leaders, and the wider USA population.
Today we pray for healing – specifically for healing of anger, grief, disappointment, hatred – in our bodies, minds, and souls. Let us use our imagination and truly SEE what Jesus would do.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.
Dear God, please give us the courage to face the truth bravely. Lead us to centering prayers before we choose a path of action.
How do I pray about actions I do not want to hear about and I do not want to see much less ‘understand’? How do we pray for that which we cannot comprehend?
