Woodland’s Sojourners Missional Community sees church as “family on mission,” and their commitment to this vision includes serving in local neighborhoods. Josh and Amy Wanggaard lead Sojourner missional outreaches in the Phillips Neighborhood of South Minneapolis, where they live.
Josh says, “These events help us bridge social barriers. We deeply believe sharing God’s love with others, especially those facing great adversity, helps us experience and understand God’s love for ourselves.”
At their most recent outreach, 20 adults and 9 kids came together to put together meals for their neighborhood. Joining the Sojourners crew were neighbors from multiple nations and faith backgrounds. After meal prep, everyone split up into small groups and made the rounds delivering boxes of rotisserie chicken, Mexican rice, veggies and cookies. The event wrapped up with a debrief and time in prayer for those they had served. In total they served 220 meals!

If you’d like to be part of this “family on mission,” the next outreach will be on November 23rd from 12-5 pm. A missional group will be preparing and sharing a Thanksgiving meal with people who are facing challenges like homelessness, addiction and mental health issues. You can find more details here. Don’t forget to RSVP!
How do I get on a list of people preparing and contributing a turkey and other food?
Hi Mark, you can RSVP to volunteer for the event here: https://hbnb.io/e/wkH2/ !
