Depolarizing Ourselves

Start Date: Aug 24, 2024

A free workshop to help you become more aware of your “inner polarizer” and learn methods for disagreeing with others in love, without contempt and ridicule.

Polarization can be driven by how we talk with like-minded people about those on the other side. Instead of viewing those who hold different views through the lens of the cross, we often end up viewing them through the lens of whatever political party we are aligned with, which means we too stereotype, dismiss, or ridicule our fellow citizens instead of loving them, as Christ taught.

Goals:

  • Become more aware of our own “inner polarizer”
  • Learn how to be critical without demonizing, dismissing or stereotyping large swaths of the population
  • Learn how to lovingly and constructively intervene in polarizing social conversations with like-minded people

Saturday, August 24 from 10:00-11:30am

Class Format: In-Person, Gathering Area @ WH
Duration: 1 weeks
Instructor(s): Bill Doherty

Bill Doherty is a Woodland Hills attendee and volunteer, and a co-founder of Braver Angels, a national organization dedicated to bringing people together to bridge the deep divides in modern American politics. He is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota, and combines a background in family therapy and community engagement.
