Sermon Response Studio

This gallery was part of the Sermon Response Studio, a new initiative begun by the Arts Group in September. Meeting on Monday nights, the group began with sermon discussion, then, using prompts or their own ideas, made art based on themes from 1 Corinthians 13.

Besides individual interpretations on agape love, the group worked together on a collaborative piece. One participant said, “I got to meet kindred spirits, as we did art together and inspired each other. We had diverse mediums and tools to work with, but collaborative art is more fun than expected!”

The Sermon Response Studio was a space for community, vulnerability and a jumpstart to creativity. As one group member told us, “I’ve been really struggling to restart my creative practice after four years of house spouse life and this was really life giving and reminded me why I want to get back to making things!”

The Sermon Response Studio wrapped up with a pizza party where artists talked about their pieces, and shared the back story and inspiration behind them.

Another artist said, “The last night of the Art Studio was the highlight for me of the whole time we had together. It was so good and agape to hear each person’s story and reflection on their art. You created a safe loving space for all to share.”

Thank you artists for giving all the rest of us a chance to engage with agape love in a tangible and beautiful way!

If this sounds like your sort of thing, join our Arts Group email list and stay in the loop about future gatherings!
