Supporting Journeys Out of Homelessness

Posted on

We’ve been partnered with Settled since 2018, and deeply believe in their model for supporting people transitioning out of chronic homelessness. One of the foundations of their work is to surround previously homeless neighbors with a support structure. Supportive Friends are a key component in that structure, walking side-by-side to empower individuals to succeed in their goals.

Upcoming Training

We all need people around us to lend expertise, insights, and perhaps most importantly, relational and social capital. That’s exactly what Settled wants to offer: 4-6 people to work as a team to support each neighbor coming out of homelessness so that they can meet their life goals.

Settled is partnering with an organization called The Open Table, who are offering their 20 years of experience and training to those interested in joining Settled as Supportive Friends. If you’ve wondered about how you can help someone on their journey out of homelessness, this is a great time to jump in!

FAQ

What is the commitment?
One weekend of in-person training (Nov 14-16), one hour a week for 12 months, and open to a lifelong friendship.

What if I can’t make it Nov 14-16 or can only come to part of it?
Settled believes so strongly in this training that they’re asking everyone joining this first pilot cohort to come in person and for the entire time.

Does the group meet in person every week?
Yes! There’s no substitute for proximity with this work, but of course life happens so missing one or two meetings would be understandable.

Please consider being a part of this opportunity to see how God is transforming churches, and forming communities to serve the poor, the marginalized, and the outcasts. If you’re interested in attending the training, contact Ricky at Settled.

"I have been blessed by the messages I’ve heard, especially your teaching on Revelation. I sense the Holy Spirit’s presence and it has made a difference in my life. I’ve experienced some grief recently and the prayer in Ephesians has been a great help as I experience healing."
