Digital Renovations

Posted on

Our little corner of the internet looks a lot different as of today! We’re happy to have crossed the finish line on a project that’s lasted several months, and hope you enjoy using our new web site. Here are a few things you may want to check out:

  • Improved sermon search – find messages by topic, keyword, speaker, series or year.
  • Email newsletter – sign up and stay current on WH news.
  • Improved calendar – one stop shopping for Woodland Hills events.
  • Volunteer sorter – quickly find a way to serve!
  • Printable study guides for sermons – now you can take ’em with you.
  • Use your phone – this site scales better on those little screens we all carry around.

Thanks to everyone who worked countless hours and offered their expertise on our new site, including Barbara Schendel-Kent, Mike Selner, Malley Design, Davin Dong, Daniel Goldberg, Jim Knudsen, Karissa Kohn, Erica Morrow, Jon Rude, Heather Swenson and Noelle Wilde. You can learn more about their contributions here.

We hope you enjoy using the site!

The new website looks GREAT! Thanks for the revamp! I didn’t even know this was going on. I do love the new layout, clean and uncluttered. Way to go!

Have some of the audio files for the older sermons been removed? I’ve been listening in chronological order, and when I do the sermon search, many of the audio files are no longer available to download, but sermon notes/slides are.

Hi Chris — we tried to be careful about moving over all our media files, but something may have gotten missed in our transfer. I’m glad you said something! Could you email me more details at cswanson@whchurch.org? Thanks!

        Hi!
My wife and I enjoy viewing or reviewing sundays messages on our tv through Roku. For the last few weeks when we try to start the WH app on Roku it says it is loading but never starts, then goes back to the initial status as if we hadn’t tried to start it. Just wondering if this is WH server problem, since it is the only app that doesn’t seem to work.
        Thanks for your response.
        David

Hi David — unfortunately the channel isn’t active any longer; it was created by a generous volunteer podcaster who wanted to watch our sermons on his Roku. We haven’t been in touch with him for a long time, and didn’t get the sense that lots of people used the channel.

However, I think you should still be able to see WH sermons through your Roku by using a podcast channel. Our sermon video podcast shows up if you search for it using Blubrry:

          channelstore.roku.com/details/1421/blubrry-podcast-community

You can add our video podcast to the MyCast section of the Blubrry channel and get access to the last 25 sermons.

          Hope that helps!

          1. David says:

Thank you Charlie! That is very helpful, we will go the podcast route.

          2. David says:

Charlie I cant seem to find anything related to woodland hills on Blubrry. Exactly what should i search for?

          3. Charley Swanson says:

Hi David, it seems that there may be a little glitch with the Blubrry Roku app. Searching for “Woodland Hills,” as you said, returns no results. But if you just search for “Woodland” our podcast shows up, along with a number of other churches named Woodland Hills : )

Look for the one with the red “WH” circle. Hope that helps!

    Hi WHC folk.
It appears that with the new website format video files are now only available in HD format with file sizes of 1GB+. As we have low speed and limited data internet connection here viewing/downloading such large files is very difficult. Is it possible to get video files of sermons in SD rather that HD so that file size is reduced?
Love what WHC is doing for the Kingdom!
    Thanks,
    Graeme
