Return to Innocence

• Greg Boyd

This weekend we continue our study of how attachment theory can be used as a descriptive tool for our connections in relationships with others as well as how we connect with God. How we have connected with others, both positively and negatively, is usually a good approximation for how we think of and connect with God. Some of this appears to be genetic, some a product of the nurture we received, and some a product of our own free will. In this message, we explore the role of free will in our development of healthy, secure connection as well as what healing looks like for someone who has formed unhealthy attachment mechanisms with themselves, others, and God. wh-bug

Someone please inform Greg that his back problems may be completely resolved if he would only begin using an Inversion Table. I’ve been hanging upside down since the 80’s and it’s better than a chiropractor!

    1. Paige Slighter says:

Thanks for sharing Kevin. We’ll be sure to pass that along.

      1. Kevin says:

        Great, thanks Paige

Hey Kevin, just got a response from Greg. He actually bought an inversion table yesterday. He hasn’t been able to try it out yet, but he looks forward to it. He thanks you for suggesting it!

          1. Kevin says:

Now that is too coincidental to not be God. He’ll be a new man in no time; thanks for the good report.

Thanks so much for this sermon. It really spoke to me. I loved the exercise at the end. It’s only been in the last few years that I believe God loved me know matter what. I grew up in the Catholic Church about the same time as you, Greg. I spent most of my early life being afraid I would die & go to hell. That is so sad to me. Why would a 7 year old think they were going to hell?

I am a podrishioner. What you teach speaks to me. I have been sending your sermons to friends. Thanks for the great work!! God loves you!

  3. Matthew says:

Absolutely excellent Greg. I understood everything. I believe it all.

  4. Nikki says:

    Hello!
I’m planning on starting to watch this older series, and I’m wondering if there are study guides for any other sermon in this series besides The Devil’s Chaplain? Each time I click the Study Guide menu option within these sermons, the same study guide appears every time.

    1. Emily says:

Hi Nikki, That’s odd! There is a unique guide posted for each. If you continue to experience this problem, can you send us an email at info@whchurch.org? We’ll figure out a way to get them sent as attachments! -Emily from the Communications Team
