[Crap] Happens2011
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Why God, why? This may be the most repeated prayer in history. Most people have said it at one point or another, if only under their breath. Why sickness? Why suffering? Why doesn’t God respond to my prayers? Why do I struggle so much? Honest questions like these deserve honest answers. During our [Crap] Happens series, we’ll explore these questions together to find victory in the midst of the [Crap] of life.

Faith and Doubt2011
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Faith is sometimes understood as the lack of doubt. Doubt can be seen as the enemy of faith; however, doubt is not always the enemy. God wants His people to wrestle with Him on the things that happen in their life. We must not be afraid of struggling with deep questions.

Subversive Christmas2010
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Seth McCoy, Bruxy Cavey
- When Jesus was born in the middle of the Roman Empire, part of God's plan was to undermine the authority and agenda of the kingdom of the world and replace it with the Kingdom of God. The original idea of Christmas was to be subversive, but at this time of year the values of the world are far more pervasive than the values of Jesus! As followers of the subversive Kingdom of God, how should we celebrate Christmas?

Undivided2010

Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Love God. Love others. Love yourself. Sounds pretty simple, yet we tend to overcomplicate this concept with our overly stressed, overly busy, overly committed lives. What can be done about this? How can we break the pattern? Our Fall 2010 Adventure Series, Undivided, is about living a life that is whole and unfractured. It’s about simplicity and love and how those two things are connected. It’s about justice and mercy and money and possessions and time and technology and life and death. It’s about helping you open up spaces in your life so that compassion is possible. As it is, most of our lives are too crowded and fractured to care.

Can't Stop the Love2010
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- When the Scandalous Love series was over, we realized that there was a lot more to be said about the love of God... and you know how long winded Greg can get. Plus, he ran out of things to say about Luke, so he was kinda nervous to get back into that book.

Scandalous Love2010
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Scott Boren
- Unfortunately, we often think of God as distant, controlling and punishing. Even though the Bible states that “God is love,” even many in the church are trapped by images and thoughts about God that are less than loving. The truth is, he seeks a love relationship with us. As followers of this God, we need to know and receive his “scandalous” love. This seven week adventure series will open up your imagination to experience God for who he really is, and realize that he is passionately in love with us!

Kingdom Economics2010
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Mary Anderson, Guest Panelists
- All of us continue to be affected by the state of the economy, and based on recent surveys of our congregation and podrishioners, we know that people would like suggestions and advice about managing their money. To try and address some of these issues, we did a series called Kingdom Economics.

Compassion by Command2009
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Dwayne Polk, Efrem Smith, Sandra Unger, Jin Kim
- Following Jesus involves serving and relating to those who are living in poverty. There are more than 400 passages (spanning more than 3,000 verses!) in the Bible that make this point, yet this aspect of being a Christ follower is not often highlighted. Our Compassion by Command series will help equip you, whatever our economic status, to have relationships with and serve others across socio-economic lines. The study explores Scripture passages about our response to poverty, presents the stories of individuals living in poverty and gives us the opportunity to discuss this important issue and decide how to respond together. Join us as we follow Jesus and serve with compassion!

- Somewhere along the way western Christians seem to have forgotten how important our imagination is to our walk with God and our mission to the world. In the beginning of all things, God took something lifeless (some dust) and he interacted with it in a way that brought it to life. He animated the dust. During the spring of 2009 we explored ways to animate the way we think about God and consequently how we live for him. What would it be like to approach God with our whole selves: body, soul, and spirit? It’s time to come to our senses. Literally.

The Great Reversal2008
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Scott Boren, Shawna Boren
- The parables of Jesus found in Luke 14 and 15 present a God who reverses everything we naturally expect God to be. Just as good experiences with a friend require some creativity, we need to practice different ways of relating to God. We entered into the teachings of Jesus in Luke 14 and 15 during our Great Reversal series. The series includes weekly sermons, short-term small groups and a prayer journal. Let God’s word turn your life upside down, making it right side up for the Kingdom!

Life Beyond Belief2008
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Mike Davis
- Too many Christians today believe the right things about Jesus, but they have little more. To them, life with Christ is primarily about what they understand in their heads. But there is more than belief. Jesus came to set people free to live, not just believe. He came to open possibilities, not just settle for what we have now. He came to provide an experience that is beyond what you can imagine.

Revolting Beauty2007
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Annie Perdue-Olson
- REVOLTING BEAUTY. What is it exactly? It seems contradictory. Whatever is beautiful attracts us; whatever is revolting repels us. How can we be attracted to, and repelled by, the same thing? Finding the answer to this question lies at the heart of what God has called us to be as his people. The paradoxical phrase “Revolting Beauty” takes us to the essence of the Kingdom. We are called to be a people that offer the beauty of the cross, which is both horrifying and alluring at the same time. The way of the cross is a way of beauty that stands for something radical and counter-cultural.

Dancing with God2007
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Our God is a great God! He is good, holy and worthy of praise. As followers of God, worship is a way of ascribing worth to God. To worship God is to reflect back to God how much he is worth to us. Our lives are an act of worship, including special times where we individually and corporately worship God. As we participate in worshipping the source of all life, love and beauty, we in turn are changed and transformed.

Spiritual Warfare2007
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Spiritual warfare is a topic that can be neglected or overly stressed in churches. As followers of Christ, it is important to recognize that there is a spiritual side to our world, in which principalities and powers are in opposition to the ways of God. In Christ, we can overcome and resist these influences both individually and collectively. From July 2007, the first two weeks of this 3-week sermon series cover the topic of spiritual warfare. The series concludes with a Q&A sermon with Greg and Paul.

The Beautiful Mess2007
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Scott Boren, Annie Perdue-Olson, Seth McCoy
- In Luke 6:17-49, which is often called the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus explains what it means to follow him. Today we refer to this as discipleship. However, Jesus does not highlight any of the typical modern themes that we often associate with discipleship—Bible study, scripture memorization, quiet time, reading books, going to church, worship, etc. Instead, Jesus explains how following him impacts how we deal with the relational stuff that we face everyday. Everyday life is messy! Relationships—whether at work, in families or with friends—are messy. Jesus wants to enter our messes with us, teaching us a way of displaying beauty in the midst of relational messes. "The Beautiful Mess" provides baby steps that help move us in the right direction of actually living out and experiencing the beautiful life of the Kingdom of God.

Experiencing the Beautiful Life2006
-
Speakers — Greg Boyd, Dwayne Polk, Scott Boren, Annie Perdue-Olson
- In living his life, Jesus was the manifestation of beauty. As God’s children, we are invited to participate in the beautiful life of Jesus. The kingdom of God is the dome in which God is king. It is the realm where Jesus displays true beauty in the midst of a world of chaos, ugliness, manipulation and stress. It is the manifestation of the glory of God as the delightful wonder of God’s presence is revealed through God’s people. The Kingdom of God is a wonderfully beautiful thing. Life today is quite full for most people. Many hear about the Kingdom of God and think, “Nice idea, but my life outside of the church has little room to make it a priority.” While understanding the Kingdom of God is good, we also need to think practically about how our lives can be ordered so that we can actually experience the Kingdom. This is the purpose of Experiencing the Beautiful Life.

Jesus for Thinking People2005
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Is Christianity for the "weak-minded?" "Is the Bible really true?" During this three week sermon series, Greg refutes common questions people have about the reliability of the Gospel accounts (specifically Luke) of Jesus. He addresses 2 common arguments (theories) that scholars use agianst the reliability of the Gospels. The Conspiracy Theory, which states that the Gopels are intentionally false, and the Legendary Theory, which maintains that though the authors of Luke weren’t consciously lying and trying to deceive people (they genuinely believed what they where saying), they were just wrong about essential things like Jesus’ being both the messiah and God!

The Cross and the Sword2004
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- As followers of Jesus Christ, we are citizens of the Kingdom of God; however, we live in the kingdom of the world. In this sermon series, Greg uses the theme of "The Cross and the Sword" to address this dichotomy head on. First distinguishing the two kingdoms from each other (the first uses "power under" to influence; the latter uses "power over") then covering five dangers of fusing them. Powerful illustrations of how we are to be of the Kingdom of God but live in the kingdom of the world are used throughout, including examples of how to respond to controversial issues like abortion and homosexuality. (This series was the inspiration for Greg's book, "Myth of a Christian Nation".)

Love is / Love is Not2002
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- In this sermon series, Greg focuses specifically on what love is in itself and how we become lovers in the biblical sense. Using the classic biblical text on love, 1 Corinthians 13, Greg shows how love is the center of the Christian experience. Everything in Christianity hinges upon Christ’s demonstration of love on the Cross for us and our manifesting that love to others.

Love and Judgement2002
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- In this sermon series, Greg talks about Christ-like love, in contrast to “the knowledge of good and evil.” Love is central to the Christian faith. The Church is to display God’s love to the world. But we fail to do this primarily because we forget that we are unable to both love and judge our neighbor. He also dicusses the difference between judgment and discernment.

Love & the Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil2002
-
Speaker — Greg Boyd
- Love is to be the heartbeat of the Christian life. Yet, throughout history, we have fallen short of Christ-like love and into judgement. In this sermon series, Greg addresses the question “What went wrong?” by taking us back to Genesis 3. We cannot both love and judge at the same time. We either eat of the tree of life, which is made available to us again in Jesus Christ, or we continue to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One is a life of freedom, transparency, openness, joy and truth. The other is a life of bondage and emptiness.
