Food Drive 2022

Posted on

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink… -Matthew 25:35

We’ve made it well past our goal of 3,000, with a total of 8,932 pounds of food! Thank you!

For over ten years, Woodland has been partnering with Merrick Community Services to run a food shelf out of our building. In 2020, when Merrick had to redirect their staff to only one location because of the pandemic, we rearranged staff tasks and resources to keep the food shelf running so we could continue to feed the families in our neighborhood who counted on it.

Currently, food prices are increasing and some of our usual sources of food donations have dried up. We need your help to continue feeding neighborhood families! Starting Sunday, March 6, we’ll be starting a food drive with a goal of bringing in 3,000 lbs of food by the end of March.

If you’d like to help, you can drop off non-perishable food, or make a financial donation. (Pro tip: a financial donation will go the furthest, as the food shelf is able to buy in bulk and get lower prices. For example, we can buy 10 lbs of food with just $17!)

We will also be accepting food donations at Door B from 10 am-3 pm Monday through Thursday, and during Sunday services in the Gathering Area, along with the children’s entrance at Door C.

Here are some suggested donations we are looking for:

  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Canned soups
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.)
  • Mac and cheese
  • Pasta
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Tuna/Hamburger helper
  • Rice
  • Oatmeal
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Ramen noodles
  • Cooking oil

Thank you for helping to serve families in our neighborhood!

  1. Jon says:

How do we designate donations to the food shelf?
I see only General Fund and Sustain in the “giving” portal.

Hi Jon, You should be able to find a designated food shelf fund, now!

"We have been podrishioners for several months. Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids moved back to California after living in MN for 10 years. They attended Woodland Hills for about a year before they moved. Now we all go to the beach together on Thursdays, come home and have dinner together, then we watch last Sunday’s sermon together. It is a special day for our family."
