In 2018 we partnered with Settled, an organization working to build tiny homes for people experiencing long-term homelessness. Tiny homes are part of a nationwide movement to address homelessness. They are cost-effective, safe, beautiful and eco-friendly. Plus, they are a great way to love our neighbors!
As a part of our 2018 holiday fundraiser, we raised $25,000 to build Settled’s first prototype a tiny home. Then, in 2019, Woodland volunteers pitched in with others to help build the home so that churches and government officials could see the amazing potential this model has for cities. By the end of summer 2019, the prototype was making the rounds, inspiring and exciting people, and opening up new solutions to helping those experiencing long-term homelessness.
Since then, more churches have jumped in, helping to develop processes for church discernment, create neighborhood engagement strategies, raise awareness and build more tiny homes. The first Sacred Settlement at Mosaic Church in St. Paul held its grand opening in October 2022, and we continue to be the main construction and warehouse site as more homes are being built for other settlements!
