Two of the main dogmas concerning scripture are:
- The divine inspiration of all scripture (based on Jesus’ attitude toward and treatment of it).
- The authority of scripture in matters of Christian faith and practice (when properly interpreted).
At least one practical implication of this is: When we do theology, we make use of a number of sources, including scripture, church tradition, reason, experience and culture. However, the Bible functions as our primary source. Following Jesus’ example, this means that when other sources conflict with scripture (when properly interpreted and applied, of course), the Bible wins.
